OLEA EUROPEA (extra virgin olive oil) from organic farming, Artemisia Annua from biodynamic farming, extract of flowers and leaves.

    • Uses

Artemisia Annua is remarkable medicinal oil with a wide range of therapeutic applications. Its most renowned use is the treatment of malaria, thanks to its active compound artemisinin.

It is celebrated for its ability to support the immune system, it has been used in traditional medicine to strengthen the body's natural defenses, against high fever, influenza and herpes. Thanks to its potent antioxidant content, including flavonoids and polyphenlos, it combats oxidative stress, reducing chronic diseases.

Artemisia Annua is also valued for its anti-inflammatory effects, making it a popular natural remedy for managing inflammatory conditions like arthritis or digestive issues

Artemisinin and its derivatives have shown promise in targeting cancer cells, including those in breast, lung, and prostate cancers, by inducing apoptosis or programmed cell death.

Its soothing effects extend to the skin, where it is applied to treat conditions such as acne, eczema, and other irritations, thanks to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

    • Mechanism of Action

The mechanism of action of Artemisia Annua, particularly its active compound artemisinin, is primarily linked to its ability to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) that damage the cells of parasites and other harmful organisms.

It contains additional bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids and terpenoids, which may enhence artemisinin's efficacy or exhibit their own antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. These compounds can contribute to the oil's broader antimicrobial and anti-cancer activities.

    • Historical notes

The plant's name is derived from Artemis, the ancient Greek goddess of the hunt and healing, reflecting its revered status as a medicinal herb in early cultures. Historically, Artemisia species were also used in Roman and Greek medicine for treating digestive issues, inflammation, and infections, though these applications predate the discovery of its specific antimalarial effects.

The active compound artemisinin was isolated by Tu Youyou, a Chinese scientist who drew inspiration from traditional medical texts. Her groundbreaking discovery earned her the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
